Spam Can Be A Good Thing!

I'm not talking about those annoying emails that show up in your inbox.  I'm talking about "spiced ham" in a can!  And why is it good?  Because those empty cans of Spam can go from this...

...to this!

...or this!

...or, even this!

...and, one more!

All you have to do is first empty the cans by consuming the contents.  If you don't like Spam, then you better find someone who does and sweet talk them into giving you their empty cans!  As for my family, we have a bunch of Spam in food storage, so bonus points for me!  Then gather your supplies.  You'll need (4) 20mm wood beads for each can, spray paint, glue, scrapbook paper, small bookplates, and anything else you want to use for embellishments.  After washing and drying the cans, spray them, and the beads, the color of your choice.  Glue the beads to the bottom corners.  I used epoxy.  Wrap and glue paper around the body.  You could apply the paper with mod podge to make it more durable.  Attach the bookplate with glue, or by punching holes and attaching with small brads.  Embellish with ribbon, strips of fabric, jute, etc.  The possibilities are really endless!  Have fun!

  2. Clever girl! But you don't say what you did with the SPAM. You didn't EAT it did you? That seems a high price to pay, even for such a cute craft project (wink).

  3. Ummm, this is amazing! Love what you did with some lowly spam cans! The hardest thing would have to be figuring out what to do with the Spam...ugh. That stuff is n-a-s-t-y! ~Jen @ www.icantstopcrafting.blogspot.com

  17. These are so cute my jaw dropped open in disbelief. I never would have guessed they were Spam cans!! My hubby has been having me purchase Spam lately for our food storage as well, so I might have to break one (or three) open ASAP just so I can make these.

  40. My twin granddaughters just started high school and have lockers for the first time. They are complaining about not being able to find pencils and other small items quickly enough to prevent tardies. These, with magnets on the back would be perfect for the inside of the doors. Thanks bunches.

  42. I just searched for ideas to re-purpose Spam cans and found this on pinterest. Wonderful idea ! and as for all of you Spam haters, I have something for you to try. My boyfriend hates spam or used to I should say. The other night I made a long time favorite of my family and he is forever more a spam lover. Cut 8 red potatoes-skin on-into cubes, 1 large sweet onion chopped , 2 cans spam cut into cubes, put all ingredients into 1 gallon size Ziploc, pour in 4 tbsp. olive oil , 1 pkg onion soup mix, salt & pepper to taste, close Ziploc and shake well. Pour into lg.Pyrex dish and bake 45 min.on 400 degrees.stirring once. DELISH!

  44. For those of you who do not like Spam (it is good when fried), use the International Coffee Tins!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. that's what I was going to suggest! Someone just donated a couple of boxes full of empty international coffee tins to our school . . . I'm the elementary art teacher, so they thought of me ;) I was browsing for ideas. You can also use contact paper instead of having to tape or glue on scrapbook paper! :D
