My Sewing Studio!

I'm so excited to finally post about my sewing studio!  If you follow any of my posts, you may have seen glimpses of it in my refashioning "before" photos.  Now, after completing several DIY projects for my studio, I'm ready to show you the whole room!

My studio isn't huge (10 x 10), but its a space dedicated just to sewing so I can't complain.  I actually had my eye on a bigger bedroom with a bay window and walk-in closet, but we're not empty nesters yet, so I'm content with the space I have while I enjoy having our "nest" still occupied!

This room is filled with lots of DIY projects.  Stay tuned over the next several days as I dedicate an individual post to each of the projects.

With some savvy shopping, I was able to purchase the three main furniture pieces in my studio for a total of $60.00!!

I've been a seamstress for over 40 years and I've never had a whole room dedicated to just sewing.  It's so much fun and inspirational!

Stay tuned over the next several days for details on how I was able to turn a spare bedroom into my sewing studio, including new Pergo flooring, and all of the following DIY projects....

 ...for under $600!!
(FYI, the new Pergo flooring was half the budget, which means all the furniture, lighting, and accessories totaled less than $300!)

I like to link to these great parties!

  1. Looks fabulous, Susan. Love the sewing desk - looks like you just have to swivel your chair to move from one machine to the other.

    1. Thanks Helen! I work better on sunny days, so the bold colors help to inspire me even if the weather doesn't! Thanks for link up, I'll watch for it in July.

    1. Thanks Marie! I'm am really loving the vintage feel. I have a couple of art pieces that involve some vintage needlework from my grandmothers that I will display in the room as soon as they're finished. And, just to be clear...the furniture pieces totaled $60, the whole room, including the floor, was under $600. Thanks for checking it out!

  6. It's beautiful, Susan, and just as good, it was frugal! I'm looking forward to hearing about all of it. I would love to have a dedicated space for sewing; my machine lives on the dining room table except when we have special holiday dinners :)

    1. Thanks Jenny! My sewing machines over the years always occupied the dining room table, too! I was lucky enough to get an office space several years ago off our master bedroom, but it also contained my computer area (of which the kids dominated!) and my paper crafting area (i.e. scrapbooking), and my sewing machines. Needless to say, it was a bit crowded. Its nice to be able to spread out a bit more now. I hope that someday you will have a dedicated space also!

    1. Thank you Michelle! It's a fun room to be in even when I'm not sewing. I hope you learn to sew soon. It's "sew" rewarding!

  11. We are in the process of doing over our upstairs. Right now it is down to the studs but when it is finished, I will FINALLY have a craft room and I cannot wait. I am in the process of looking for a dressmaker dummy. I can't say I am a seamstress but I try.

    1. How exciting to be able to design your craft room from the studs up! I'm sure you will thoroughly enjoy it! As for a dressmaker dummy, or dress form, I was leaning towards an adjustable one, but I really liked the vintage look of the one I got. In all my years of sewing I have never had a dress form, but I love having it now! Have fun!!

  12. I was married 30 years before I had my "own" Inspiration Station (which you can check out on my side bar at Kelley Highway). Yours is SEW delightful, Susan. Don't you just wanna smile when you walk in there?!? Me, too!

    Hugs and happy highways,
