It was late one night, I was tired after doing tile work all day, but it was $2 dollar Thursday at Value Village and I just had the urge to go thrifting. With only one hour 'til closing I hopped in the car and away I went. I came home with a few treasures, some to refashion, and some to wear as is. This grey knit dress happened to need refashioning. It was marked an "M" in size, but it came down all the way to floor on me. I really liked the softness of the fabric, though, and the color too. This was going to be a quick refashion.
After cutting 14" from the length, I turned it inside out and put it on my dress form. I proceeded to pin where I wanted my new side seams to be. Since I was taking it in so much, it naturally eliminated the side hip pockets, besides who wants extra attention at the hips anyway?
To make it easier, since I was taking it in quite a bit, I trimmed away the excess fabric at the side seams before stitching.
I stitched up the side seams, tried it on for size, then went over the seams with an overlock stitch.
The last thing was to turn up the hem and do a double stitch.
I don't even think this refashion took more than an hour and I'm left with a very comfortable dress! Plus, I may just have a plan for a future project with the pockets and the 14" I cut off the length.
My necklace and earrings were purchased from a woman who buys up estate jewelry and then sells it all for $2 a piece. I love shopping at her little shop!
I like to link to these great parties!
This turned out so great. Well done you! I love how the dress is such a flattering fit and such a versatile piece for summer with flats or winter with tights and boots. Cheers, Michele
ReplyDeleteThank you, Michele! I like the versatility also, along with the neutral color. It should rotate through the wardrobe nicely.
DeleteThank you for such simple instructions. I love your refashions!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Sometimes my refashions get a bit complicated, but this one was simple and sweet. I'm glad you liked it!
DeleteIt might be quick and easy but it looks super
ReplyDeleteThanks!!
DeletePerfect little comfortable dress. You look great! !!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gina!!
DeleteWhat a difference! Looks like it was designed for you, not just refashioned for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliment! Its always nice to know that a refashion turns out looking more designer than refashion!
DeleteThis is darling. I never would have seen what you ended up with in the before. Good sight.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Catherine! I can usually "see" what I want something to look like before I begin. Most of the time the end result matches the vision in my mind, but sometimes its not as good, and occasionally, when I'm lucky, its better!
DeleteWhat a transformation, and for such little effort. You definitely have an eye for seeing the potential in the pre-loved clothes you buy, Susan.
ReplyDeleteFeatured today, Susan.
DeleteThanks Pam! You're always so kind to feature my projects!
