Thirteen is a Lucky Number!

Thirteen is a lucky number in our family as we welcome this sweet little granddaughter into our family.  I had the fun of doing her newborn photo shoot the other day.  

Say hello to sweet Emmalyn Renee!

Tinley Rose

My daughter recently gave birth to our eleventh grandchild.  The score now stands at 6 girls and 5 boys.  But, our son and his wife are expecting in February and the score will once again be even!  Grandchildren are so much fun!

My daughter really wanted to do some Disney princess scenes for the newborn photoshoot.   I admit, we may have gotten a little carried away!  We had fun gathering items from thrift stores to use in the scenes.  It was a full day and a half of shooting, but in the end it was worth it.

This is Tinley Rose in Wonderland.  The playing cards announce her birth date, 9-23-17.  The Mad Hatter hat shows her weight, 9 lbs. 2 oz. The tape measure that was used in the hospital shows her length, 19.1".  She was born at 9:04, so all of the clocks were set to that time.  I made a new cover for the Little Golden Book that features her name.  Her little dress was refashioned from a women's blouse, utilizing the elastic sleeve and button detail.  She got double duty out of the dress since she dressed as Alice in Wonderland for halloween this year!

A baby shower...with a touch of vintage Disney!

We are anxiously awaiting the birth of our eleventh grandchild, a little girl.  My daughter's friends gave her a shower and I was happy to help with the decorations.  The theme was vintage Disney.  We had fun collecting storybooks from thrift stores and using them for decorations.  I was also able to recycle some of the decorations I had used for the Mad Hatter tea party from last year.  It was a beautiful shower in her friend's backyard.

My daughter found this beautiful IKEA tray at a thrift store for only $3!  I just cut her daughter's name with my Cricut and taped it in place.  

Time Out From Tunics!

Sewing has been put on hold lately.  My hubby runs two businesses, home designing and general contracting, and I am the lucky person who gets to do all the bookkeeping!  Business tax returns are due one month earlier than personal tax returns and there was a mountain of receipts to organize and account for this year!  Luckily, I finished them in time and sent them off the afternoon of March 14, just in time for our tenth grandchild to be born later that night!  Needless to say, I have been happily busy doing the grandma thing!  I even had the privilege of doing the newborn photo shoot, of which I'm not a professional, but my price is right!

Hedgehog Happiness!

My youngest daughter has been decorating her nursery in a woodland animal theme.  To add to the fun, and to give her some lumbar support while nursing, I made her a pillow.

I drew inspiration from this design I found on the internet.  I can't find the original source, but I believe the company is Cocoa Mint Kids.

I cut the various pieces from fabrics that were already in my stash and used fusible webbing to hold them in place.

I then machine appliqued around the fabric.

The details were done by embroidering a variety of stitches.  It helped pass the time as I spent a total of 5 hours on a school bus with my youngest son for his most recent field trip!

Decorative vintage buttons were used for the flower centers.

 Small black buttons were used for the eyes.  Two sizes of black pom-poms were used for the hedgehog's noses.

I finished the edges of the pillow with large piping cut on the bias from some of the fabric that is already used in her nursery.

It was a fun project and should add a pop of cheerfulness to the nursery!

The Little Guy's Dresser

My daughter just gave birth to her first child.  In preparing for the event, she was in need of a dresser for the nursery.  A friend passed along a simple dresser with clean lines, but as you can see below, it had a little problem on the bottom drawer.

I just happened to have a little bit of white trim left over from a contracting job we did last summer.  It was just enough to cover the problem and give the dresser a bit of style.

The knobs were removed and given a coat of white spray paint.

The top, back edge also had a similar problem.  I just added a wider piece of trim along the top and covered it up.

And this is the sweet little guy that's going to use the dresser!

It's great being a grandma!

What do all of these have in common, and why are they all addressed in this one post?  Well, its a recap of what I have been doing the past week and a half.

First, and foremost, I am one lucky grandma!  I was able to head to a sunnier climate to visit this cute family...

...who just welcomed this sweet new addition.
